Planning Your Grow Light Garden
An indoor grow light garden can provide you with the satisfaction of successfully growing herbs and vegetables year round. Obviously this is also helpful for both your grocery bill and the ingredients in cooking. The most important aspect when planning is location. You have to find the perfect spot so that the temperature doesn’t swing drastically and where the plants can get some natural light. If you’re using an artificial light, like an LED grow light, the natural light isn’t required, but can still help if it is available.
A small herb garden probably only needs a garden pot to live and thrive in. Pots come in a variety of sizes and shapes so you should easily be able find one to suit your specific needs. A problem that a lot of people run into is that the depth of large pots actually turns into a problem because it doesn’t fit in the place where it needs to go. Finding a pot that is wide enough, but not too deep, will be the challenge. Remember that you can always use multiple small pots if you can’t find the perfect size.
If you’re looking for a larger container, you should be able to find bench planters at most gardening stores. They’re usually about three feet long and one foot deep, which will allow enough space for significant plantings. If you get something this big, you have to realize that all of your costs will go up accordingly. You’ll obviously need more dirt and seeds up front, but those a pretty much a once per year cost and fairly minimal in scale. The item of concern is your LED plant light. A small fixture would be fine over a potted plant, but you’ll either have to look at a panel of LEDs or use multiple small fixtures over the top of the planter.
