It is low in maintenance since you will only need to do some oiling and sandpapering in order to remove the scratches on it. One disadvantage though is it can be easily tarnished since it is not heatproof and water-resistant.

4. Slate – slate kitchen countertops have glossy a surface that is heatproof and water-resistant. Although it does not conceal tarnishes well, you can keep and maintain its luster by polishing it with mineral oil.
