What Makes a Woman’s Bedroom?
If you are a single woman who is looking to decorate her bedroom, what are you most likely to choose and how would you define your style?
Although most women today would be horrified at the thought of being typecast, the fact is that in spite of post-feminism and gender equality, men and women have very different tastes. Whereas men are more into a plain style, women tend to be more imaginative. This obviously does not mean that women are mostly into pinks and lace, but that they tend to put a little more into the design of their room.
Depending on your personality and tastes, there are very various bedroom designs that are popular among women. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Victorian Style: This is more traditionally “feminine,” and consists of frills and decorations, such as a bedskirt, lace curtains, and a bed with a fancy iron frame. For such a room, you would put up lace curtains, decorate the bed with little ruffled, tasseled throw pillows, and put floral area rugs on the floor. The walls could be decorated with old-fashioned playbills, Victorian posters, and other kinds of traditional artwork. You would choose furniture typical to that era, such as a wooden dressing table, wardrobe, and cupboards, with an old-fashioned style.
Modern Style: On the other hand, lace, frills, and Victorian decor may not appeal to you at all. Perhaps you are more into the contemporary look, which tends to be much more minimalist. In this case, you would choose plainer furniture with straight, geometric lines. As modern trends favor a minimalist style, in this case your room would have only the items of furniture you need and you would go for plainer colors, more similar to a man’s decor. However, you would probably still tend to choose more imaginative colors than a man would. Here, you would possibly choose an oval area rug or a contemporary rug to add a touch of luxury to the room. The colors here would either be a blend or a contrast.
Your Own Style: Of course, everyone tends to express themselves by the way that they build their home. So you may well develop your own look. You could take elements of the two styles mentioned above and blend it into what is best for you. For example, while you may not want a Victorian bedroom, you may dislike the minimalist look as well. Therefore, you may go for modern furniture, but still want a certain amount of decoration with it. Perhaps you like lace, even if you don’t like old-fashioned furniture. And then there are your own practical needs. Maybe you have a lot of makeup and perfume, in which case you would want to design a nice shelf or dressing table to keep it all. Alternatively, you may not use makeup at all, but you have other items and accessories that you would need to take into account when decorating your bedroom.
Whatever you decide, remember that your bedroom is your own personal haven where you can relax and rest at the end of the day. So you should decorate it in the style that is the best for you.
